the real sing


The Real Sing (TRS)

is an exciting 26-voice singing ensemble presenting a wide range of material, including gospel, blues, jazz, swing, pop standards and original compositions. TRS perform original and challenging four-part ‘a cappella’ arrangements (i.e. without musical accompaniment) and have earned a strong reputation as one of the leading exponents of this style in Western Australia. Since their inception in 1995, TRS have established an enviable record of successful performances at music festivals, major public events and many concerts and recitals, both public and private.

In 1998, The Real Sing won first prize in the Perth Gospel Eisteddfod. TRS have performed for major organisations, including The Red Cross, Perth Convention Centre, Perth Mint and Clough Engineering, and have featured in such landmark public events as the Houghton’s Vineyard Jazz Concerts, Fairbridge Festival and the Nannup Music Festival. Each year, TRS perform sell-out concerts at Happs Vineyard, in Dunsborough, and The Fremantle Arts Centre. In December 2001 and 2002, TRS performed for a massed audience of 5000 at ‘Carols By Candlelight’, in Booragoon..

In January 2002, The Real Sing performed at the official Australia Day Concert in the Perth Entertainment Centre, before an audience of 9,000. The concert was broadcast nationwide on SBS Television. Since then, The Real Sing have performed in the 2003/4/5 Perth International Arts Festival, for the Lotteries Commission and at Government House for the Australian of the Year Awards. As part of an on-going program of special ‘theme’ concerts, TRS have created a two-hour celebration of the music of the 60s and 70s,
entitled "Stand By Me".

This concert was first presented over three nights in May, 2002, at the Spare Parts Puppet Theatre in Fremantle. In all four shows were presented, each being a sell-out. The show features great songs from the 60's & 70's joined by anecdotes, stories and a DJ called the K-Man. The audience are actively involved and encouraged to come dressed up in their best 60's & 70's gear.

Songs include: Happy Together/Californian Dreamin', Blue Bayou, Key Largo, Close To You, My Girl, You've Lost That Lovin' feeling, Stand By Me, Close Your Eyes, If I Fell In Love With You, You're MY World, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, I Call Your Name, River Deep Mountain High, The More I See You, Just Seventeen, Heard It Through The Grapevine, These Boots Are Made For Walking, I Shall Be Released, Mustang Sally, Monday Monday, Ferry Cross The Mersey, You Can Dance, Something Stupid. In March 2005, and in conjunction with the Two Up Two Down choir, The Real Sing performed the 'Stand By Me' concert in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia to a sell out audience. The concert was sponsored by Healthways, Smoke Free WA, ORICA Mining and the West Australian Department of Arts.
